Junior Goalkeeper Bekah Garvin was honored as a Capital One First Team Academic All-American recipient Monday, November 28. The Sonora, CA native has a 4.0 GPA and is majoring in business management. She finished 10-3-2 on the year and posted seven shutouts. The College Division Academic All-America® soccer teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
"It is no surprise to me that Bekah has been recognized as a Capitol One Academic All-American," head coach Chris Gould said. "She holds herself to a high standard both on and off the field. She has managed to become one of the best goalkeepers in the program history while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She should be very proud of this accomplishment."
She is ranked No. 18 in the NAIA and fourth in the GSAC with a 0.79 goals against average with 42 saves and seven shutouts. In the GSAC she finished third in shutouts, fourth in shutouts per game (.37), eighth in save percentage (.764), eighth in saves, and tenth in saves per game (2.21).
The 2011 women's soccer team went 13-5-2 and fell to Graceland (IA) University in the Opening Round of the Women's Soccer National Championship in Irvine in a game decided 5-4 in penalty kicks. It was CUI's first trip to the NAIA Championship.
