Rick Avila Qualifies for NAIA National Championship and Earns All-GSAC Honors

The Concordia cross country teams finished the season strong November 5, at the GSAC Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA.

The women's team finished eighth and the men's team seventh.  It was the first event this year the men's team was able to record a team score.  Rick Avila finished third overall at 24:47, which was a new personal record, and gave him a spot on the All-GSAC Team.  The women were led by Arielly Conde who finished 26th at 19:18, also a new personal record.

"I am really proud of how our athletes ran today," head coach Jim Brewer said.  "Both teams ran well and they both beat Fresno Pacific.  Rick is an individual qualifier for nationals and has a solid chance to be an All-American."

With this event comes the close to the 2011 CUI cross country season.  Coach Brewer definitely has the program headed in a positive direction.  Avila will compete at nationals November 19 in Vancouver, WA.
