Defeats Kansas Wesleyan In Straight Sets

GAME PICTURES

The Concordia volleyball team dusted off the rust on Tuesday afternoon in Sioux City, IA in the first pool play match of the 2011 NAIA Volleyball National Championship, as they defeated Kansas Wesleyan 3-0.

The Eagles had been off for two weeks, but it didn't show in the first game, as they rolled 25-9.  Brooke Marino started serving when the match was 1-0 and by the time she was done it was 8-2.  CUI kept the pedal down and pulled ahead 20-4, before putting it away.

Kansas Wesleyan adjusted in the second set, forcing some errors from Concordia and keeping the set even most of the way.  CUI seemed to find their way when it was 11-11, as they slowly built a lead from there on out, winning 25-19.

In the third set the Eagles got rolling again, and thanks to service rallies by Marino and Mindy Knight, the set was never close, as CUI ended the match 25-14.

Madison Ekis had 11 kills and Briana Hughes had nine from her middle position while hitting .583.  Elizabeth Younglove ran the offense with 21 assists and Reanna Schelhaas had two blocks.

The Eagles are back in action against Indiana Wesleyan tomorrow at 11 am PST in their second pool play match.  Follow live stats at http://www.dakstats.com/WebSync/Pages/Team/TeamSchedule.aspx?association=10&sg=WVB&conference=NAIWVB1_GSAC&division=NAIWVB1&team=1950.
