Standards Met, School Record Broken

 

On Saturday, March 24, the Concordia track & field teams competed at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invite in Irvine, CA. 

In the men's 200 Meter Dash, Trey Williams placed fifth out of 30 runners for the Eagles.  His final time was 22.04.  On the women's side, CU senior Samantha Moser came in 17th out of 40 competitors with a final time of 26.06.  Trey Williams also placed fifth in the 400 Meter Dash, with a final time of 48.87, breaking the previous school record of 49.53, and it was the third school record he has broken this season.  In the women's 3000 Meter Run, Concordia's Laura Pluemer and Arielly Conde placed 16th and 17th out of 34 competitors, respectively.  Their final time was 10:40.75 and 10:43.07.   

In the men's Long Jump, CU junior Bryan Harkins came in fourth out of 23 jumpers, with a final distance of 7.10 meters, which broke the school record and was his lifetime best.  With the jump, Harkins also qualified for nationals by hitting the B standard.  Junior Caleb McCurry placed seventh out of 21 competitors in the men's Shot Put. Caleb's final distance was 16.18 meters and hit the A standard, qualifying him for nationals.  Caleb McCurry also placed seventh out of 24 opponents in the men's Discus Throw, with a final distance of 47.54 meters, which hit the B standard, qualifying him for nationals.  Caleb placed ninth out of 17 opponents in the Javelin Throw.  Caleb final distance was 47.04 meters.     

"Our teams are showing signs of improvement and we overcame some adverse weather conditions a couple weeks ago, and it really showed up with our improvements at UC Irvine," head coach Jim Brewer said.  "I am really proud of how are athletes have been competing."

The Eagles are back in action at the Warrior Invite at Westmont College in Santa Barbara on Saturday, March 31, at 11:00 am.

Note: Last week at the Northridge Invite CU junior Emily Ramey qualified for nationals in the Heptathlon and is currently ranked second in the nation in the event.
