Complete Another Great Season
On Friday and Saturday, April 20th and 21st, the Concordia women's water polo team participated in the National Invite at Sunnyside High School in Fresno, CA, hosted by Fresno Pacific University. During the two day tournament, the Eagles won three games out of four. In the end, California Baptist University took the tournament title, while CU finished second, and Fresno Pacific University took third.
The first game on Friday for the Eagles was against Vanguard University. The Eagles were on top of their game and won by a final score of 18-3. Scoring four goals each for the Eagles were Jamie Clark and Haley Ring. Also netting scores for the Eagles were Abby Tsukamoto, Kendall Bechthold, Michaela Hund, Kathryn Manderino, Catalina Barraza, Ashley Dorrego, Maria Quiroz, and Sheri Gallegos-Lewis. The second game was against Azusa Pacific University. CU again dominated the scoreboard with a final score of 10-6. In this game, CU's Kathryn Manderino netted a remarkable four goals. Concordia's goalie Chelsea Datt had an impressive 12 saves.
On Saturday, CU lost the first game of the day against Cal Baptist, with the final score of 7-14. In the final game of the tournament, the Eagles came out on top against Fresno Pacific, with a final score of 10-4. Kathryn Manderino had one of her highest scoring games, as she netted a total of five goals while her teammate, Ashley Dorrego, scored three in the game.
The tournament wrapped up the 2012 season for the Eagles. They finished 21-11, winning the most games in program history. Head coach Steve Carerra has been at the helm for the last four years of the program's five-year existence. 2012 marks another year of improvement in a program going in the right direction.
