Rod Olson was the keynote speaker on Monday, June 25, Day One of the 2012 California Coaches Conference hosted by Concordia's Master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration.


Rod Olson or Coach O, is a nationally recognized coaching expert, speaker and author. His organizations have trained more than 100,000 coaches and leaders nationwide.  He is the founder and CEO of the Coaches of Excellence Institute, a non-profit organization that trains thousands of Coaches, Educators and Business Leaders every year and also the President of the Coach O Consulting Group.


As a speaker, advisor, and Coach, Rod has taught motivation at the USA Olympic Coaching Schools and leadership to the United States Drug Enforcement Agency. Rod's audiences are as diverse as the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to the Governor's Tourism Conferences in Wyoming and South Dakota. Rod thrives as he encourages, equips and mobilizes individuals to excel as they lead themselves and others in the 21st Century.

Rod is not your ordinary speaker and consultant as he spent nearly 20 years as a college coach. He has coached professionally at every level of amateur sport including coaching stints at Oklahoma State University and 3-time National Champion Appalachian State University. In his spare time he runs a small business called the Coach O Quarterback School.  Rod has personally trained numerous high school quarterbacks who received

NCAA Division I-A scholarships including a Heisman trophy candidate, two top 100 QB recruits and a current NFL quarterback. Currently, Rod directs the Coaches Development program for the Pittsburgh Pirate baseball club and is a regular instructor at Quantico for the U.S. DEA Leadership Academy.

What: California Coaches Conference is a five-day long conference focused on developing excellence in coaching and athletics. Sport-specific classes offered in advanced theories and strategies for coaching: soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, wrestling, track and field, football, volleyball, swimming as well as speed, strength and conditioning. The MCAA vision is to develop the skills of athletic leaders, strengthen teaching, coaching and administrative abilities to achieve the highest professional standards in coaching and athletics.
