Former CU volleyball standout Raquel Ferreira and her teammate Kristen Batt recently placed second in the Belmar Open in Belmar, New Jersey.  The event was part of the Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series.  The Belmar Open is the biggest event on the East Coast and Ferreira's second place finish marks the highest finish on the pro tour of any Concordia alum.

Ferreira played at CU in 2004 and 2006 when she graduated.  She was the GSAC and NAIA Player of the Year, an All-GSAC selection, First Team NAIA All-American, and NAIA Tournament MVP in 2004 as her team advanced to the NAIA Championship before falling to California Baptist, 1-3.  In 2006 she was a GSAC and NAIA Scholar-Athlete and All-Tournament selection as her squad fell to Fresno Pacific, 0-3, in the semifinals.

After her finishing her career at Concordia, Raquel joined the AVP Crocs Beach Volleyball Tour in 2006. She took a break during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, during which time she returned to Concordia to serve as a graduate assistant for the volleyball team.  In 2009, Raquel competed in 45 matches on the AVP Tour and has been on the tour even since.
