COSTA MESA, CA --- It's been less than 24 hours since the NAIA Top-25 poll was released, with Concordia holding the No. 13 position, but it hasn't worked out so well for the Eagles, who were upset 3-2 in double-overtime by Vanguard.

The Eagles (7-5-1, 4-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference contests) played their second overtime game in a row and third in the past four games.

Vanguard improves to 7-3-2, including a 5-0-1 mark in conference play with the victory.

Concordia held a 1-0 advantage when Kyle Hollomon cut through the defense thanks to a through pass from Joel Smith and finished on his sixth goal of the season.

The Lions knotted up the score in the game's 32nd minute when Jason Swift volleyed in a corner kick from Victor Tapia to make the score 1-1.

Eric Mendoza scored to take the Eagles' second lead, at 2-1 in the 59th minute of the contest, but Ryan Marquez was there with the equalizer for Vanguard at 63:33.

The Lions out-shot Concordia, 3-0, in extra time, and Marquez scored the game-winner 3:48 into the second overtime period.

Concordia played a man down during the game's final 30 minutes, after Mike Visser was shown a red card in the 83 minute.

Branden Garcia and starting goalkeeper James Rammelsberg each nabbed two saves, while Vanguard keeper Trevor Herrera turned away four shots.

Concordia next hosts Westmont this Saturday (Oct. 18) for a GSAC contest starting at 2 p.m.
