The #6 Concordia men's soccer team handled the visiting CSU San Marcos Cougars at home on Thursday, September 13, by a count of 4-0 at Eagles Field.
Christian Ramirez scored the first of two on the day when he took an up field pass from Jose Tamayo at 37:22 and fired it in from the middle at 10 yards out. Senior transfer Eddie Gutierrez scored his first in 2012 on a pass from David Garcia. Gutierrez took the pass, juked, and went right around a defender to score from five yards out three minutes before halftime.
At 58:42 Ramirez scored his team-leading seventh on the year and second on the day, as William Prado stole a goal kick near midfield. The two went two-on-one up the field and Prado's last minute pass found Ramirez's leg, and then found the net. Minutes after being kneed in the back, David Garcia scored his first of the year at 88:57 on a pretty low-lining Gutierrez cross from the right side.
CU outshot the Cougars 19-4 and 11-3 in shots on goal. Concordia goalkeeper Julio Trejo stayed perfect with three saves to go to 5-0-1. Not enough can be said about the job CU's defense has done keeping Trejo out of trouble spots this season. CSUSM goalkeeper Landon Sherwood had seven saves, falling to 1-3-1, as did the Cougars.
Ramirez led the Eagles with eight shots as CU improved to 5-1-1 on the year. The #6 Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, September 19 at 2 pm against Marymount. Follow live stats at http://www.cuieagles.com/live/soccer/xlive.htm.
