The #20 Concordia men's water polo team competed in the Northern California Invitational this past weekend at the Avery Aquatics Center at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16.  Their first match on Saturday against #2 UCLA fell a bit short as they were defeated 16-5.  Junior Jacob Pril led the team with two goals and was followed by sophomore Andras Antal, freshman Weston Paulson, sophomore Stefano Ragosa each with a goal of their own.  Freshman Brandon Lucia helped in the net with four saves.  Freshman Jaime Saunders also contributed with a total of three saves.

 

Game two of the tournament held the same story for the Eagles as they fell 18-6 to #10 Loyola Marymount University. The goals were spread out for CU with one goal each for sophomore Andras Antal, junior Jacob Pril, sophomore Stefano Ragosa, senior Kevin Hurley, and junior Trey Davis.  Freshman Brandon Lucia held on to three saves in the match.

The Eagles faced off against #14 Air Force in their third game on Sunday with a close match ending with Air Force on top 10-8.  Concordia fought hard with leading scorer junior Jacob Pril drilling three goals, followed closely behind by freshman Ivo Alicic with two of his own. Sophomore Andras Antal, senior Kevin Hurley, and junior Bryan Buhagiar each contributed with solo goals.  Fighting hard between the pipes was freshman Brandon Lucia with two saves.

The final match for the CU ended on a high note with a victory against (RV) Pomona-Pitzer 13-12.  The men battled together to take the win with freshman Ivo Alicic as the top scorer for the game with four goals and sophomore Stefano Ragosa right on his heals with three goals.  Junior Jacob Pril and sophomore Andras Antal both added to the lead with two goals.  Sophomore David Linden and junior Ryan McDonald each found the back of the net with one goal. Freshman Brandon Lucia took away the four goals from Pomona-Pitzer allowing the Eagles to come out on top.  With the win CU took 15th place in the tournament.

Concordia now takes an overall record of 5-3 going into a single match at the #6 University of California - Santa Barbara on September 23 at noon.
