ORANGE, CA --- The NAIA's No. 5-ranked Concordia cleaned up spots one, two and three to hold off No. 6 Biola in its own meet, earning its first first-place finish since 2006. Meanwhile, the No. 18 men finished third among seven teams.
The trio of Violet Mokaya (17:49.0), Rocio Pelayo (17:55.7) and Aybuke Kizilarslan (18:04.1) finished 1-2-3, respectively, to lead the women, as the Eagle women stood out among 10 opponents, including eight GSAC foes.
The Eagle women showed off their depth in the meet, as Yanley Estrada (18:36.7) and Cyntia Rios (18:51.5) finished ninth and 12th, respectively. Concordia under-scored host Biola, 27-60.
April Harris also finished 41st with a mark of 20:34.5.
Meanwhile, the No. 18 Concordia men finished just behind No. 13 Fresno Pacific, which under-scored the Eagles by a 54-72 mark. No. 20 Vanguard was the surprise of the meet, besting its higher-ranked opponents with 50 points--just four fewer than Fresno Pacific.
Gullermo Cazares ran a ninth-place time of 26:13.9 to lead the men to their second-straight third-place finish. Alaeeddine Khannouchi (26:36.2) finished 14th and Tony Pulido notched a 16th-place performance with a time of 26:43.7.
Joseph Lopez followed the every-other trend, capturing 18th place with a 26:55.6 mark while Raymundo Vasquez ran a time of 27:39.8--good for 25th place.
Joseph Pluff crossed the finish line in a 37th-place time of 28:21.0 as Jarid Rollins (29:00.3) provided much-needed depth by finishing in 46th place.
Both teams' next meet is the GSAC Championship event Saturday, Nov. 8 in Fresno, starting at 9 a.m.
