Concordia Eagles - Fri, Dec. 21, 2012

Concordia University and its Athletic Department are proud to announce the addition of women's lacrosse to the Eagles' Athletic Department, with their inaugural season beginning in Spring 2014.

Women's lacrosse will be officially part of the Eagles' Athletic Department and join men's lacrosse and cheerleading as a club sport.  It will not be an official varsity sport.

"As part of the effort to serve our community and share the good news of Jesus Christ through the gift of athletics, Concordia University is pleased to offer the oppurtunity for young women who have a desire to continue their love of lacrosse in their collegiate years as part of our great Athletic Department," Concordia Executive Vice President Dr. Gary McDaniel said.

The new Eagles' program will join the Western Women's Lacrosse League and the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates.  They will be a provisional member the first year and move to Division I after that, as is mandated to NAIA programs who are members of an athletic department.

The WWLL has four divisions, Division 1, Division 2, B Division, and Provisional.  Loyola Marymount, Marymount College, Northern Arizona, and Pepperdine are currently members of the Provisional Division.  Chapman, UCLA, USC, San Diego State, University of San Diego, and UC San Diego are all local Division I members.  UC Santa Barbara led the league with 16 wins last season.  The WCLA has 10 leagues covering the continental United States.

"We are extremely excited and enthused to add women's lacrosse to our outstanding athletic department," Concordia Athletic Director Dave Bireline said.  "This provides a great opportunity to expand our program, while offering the fantastic small-college Lutheran education experience to more student-athletes."

The head coaching position is currently posted at www.cuicareers.com.  Visit Lax Power.com for all things lacrosse.
