Game 1
Game 2
California State University-San Marcos
(11) Concordia

The #11 Concordia Eagles traveled to CSU San Marcos on Saturday afternoon, February 2, for a doubleheader at the CSUSM Baseball Field.  The Eagles dropped both games late and were swept in the three game series.

Concordia lost game one 4-3 in walkoff fashion.  With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, San Marcos doubled down the left field line.  A single up the middle scored the game-winning run.  Chris Garrison started for CU, going six and a third innings, allowing six hits, three runs, while striking out four in a no-decision.  Phil Gerber pitched the final two and one third, allowing just the two hits and run in the ninth to take the loss and fall to 0-1.  Mike Scaramella pitched the final three innings for CSUSM to take the win.  Concordia recorded seven hits, all singles.  Ty Holm, Dillon Bryant, Cody Smith, Bryan Garza, Ryan DiMascio, Chris Kuber, and Matt Palmer all had hits.

San Marcos used two CU errors and two hits to score two in the first inning.  A hit and double made it 3-0 Cougars through the first two.  DiMascio singled with one out in the fifth and, after being sacrificed to second, Kuber drove him home with a single to right field.  Holm singled to lead off the sixth and went to second on an error.  He moved to third on a groundout and scored on Smith's single.  Garza singled with two out to bring home Smith and tie the game.

CU had a two-out single in the seventh, but did not threaten past that.  The Cougars used their two-out rally in the ninth to take the win in the first game.

Game two led to late inning heartbreak for CU again, as they entered the bottom of the seventh with a 4-3 lead.  San Marcos led off with a single and sacrificed to second.  After a hit batsmen, both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  A double to left field scored both runners.

Josh Anderson started for CU and went five innings, allowing three hits and three runs, K'ing three, in the no-decision.  Danny Romero pitched one and a third and took the loss after allowing the single and hit batter in the seventh.  Sean Buford came in, but gave up the game-ending double.

Spencer Ofelt had a double and RBI for CU, and Matt Palmer, Chris Lee, and Bryan Garza had singles.  CU left four men on base.

Holm led off the game with a walk and was sacrificed to second.  Ofelt doubled down the left field line to score him, but was left stranded.  Smith walked to lead off the second, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch.  He scored on Chris Lee's RBI groundout.  Concordia left a man on second base to end the inning.

CSU San Marcos homered to lead off the second to make it 2-1 Eagles.  San Marcos loaded the bases with two out in the fourth and an RBI single scored two.  Palmer reached on an error to start the fifth and moved to second on the throw.  He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Holm's RBI groundout to tie the game at three.  Smith tripled with two outs in the sixth and scored on a wild pitch to give CU the 4-3 lead.  Romero worked around a double and single in the sixth, but could not escape in the seventh.

Concordia will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday, February 5 at Azusa Pacific at 5 pm.
