The Concordia Track and Field teams competed in the Westmont Sunshine Indoor Open in Santa Barbra this past Saturday and Sunday morning. Both the men and women strongly competed throughout the meet, dominating several events. 


In the Women's 200 Meter Dash, sophomore Megan White placed fourth finishing at 28.11. Senior, Laura Pluemer finished at 5:10.3 and placed third in the Women's 1 Mile Run, qualifying for the NAIA National Championships and is currently ranked fifth in the 1000m.  Placing first in the Women's 3000 Meter Run was senior Rocio Pelayo coming in at 10:27.01, qualifying for nationals. In the Women's 4x800 Meter Relay, senior Arielly Conde, senior Laura Pluemer, sophomore Jessica Marquardt, and senior Rocio Pelayo placed third with a combined time of 9:39.27, qualifying for nationals. Junior, Mikaila Davis placed third in the Women's Shot Put with a distance of 11.11m. In the Women's Weight Throw, junior Mikaila Davis had a distance of 12.38m placing second overall, a new school record. Junior, Maya Dickerson placed second in the Indoor Pentathlon: #5 Women 800 Meter Indoor Pentathlon, finishing at 2:38.09. Senior, Emily Ramey finished just behind coming in at 2:40.01 and placing third. In the Indoor Pentathlon: #4 Women Long Jump Indoor Pentathlon, senior Emily Ramey placed second with a distance of 5.11m. Coming in third was junior, Maya Dickerson with a distance of 4.98m. Junior, Maya Dickerson placed third in the Women's Indoor Pentathlon at 2723.00. Placing first in the Women's 3000 Meter Race Walk was sophomore, Julia Townsend setting the bar at 16:47.76 and setting a new school record.

Senior, Trey Williams placed first in the Men's 200 Meter Dash finishing at 22.38. In the Men's 400 Meter Dash senior, Trey Williams came in at 49:69 placing third overall and setting a new school record.  Coming in second in the Men's 600 Meter Run was freshman, Robert Blackwell finishing at 1:24.38. Right behind was sophomore, Bryce Nilsson placing third at 1:24.43. In the Men's 1 Mile Run, senior Rick Avila finished at 4:16.16 placing second overall. Following was junior, Joshua Gomez placing third at 4:17.45 and both qualified for nationals. Freshman, Miguel Mejia finished at 9:20.83 in the Men's 3000 Meter Run placing second overall. In the Men's Long Jump, senior Bryan Harkins placed second with a distance of 6.84m. Placing first in the Men's Shot Put was senior, Caleb McCurry setting the bar at 15.71m and qualifying for nationals. In the Men's Discus Throw, senior Caleb McCurry placed first with a distance of 47.74m. Placing second was junior, Wade Tsang with a distance of 45.50m. Placing first was senior, Caleb McCurry with a distance of 16.34m in the Men's Weight Throw and he has already qualified for nationals.  An interesting thing happened in the men's pole vault, as Thomas Dombrowski, John Macwillie, Myles Anderson, and Paul Bowker combined to break the school record 21 times, before Bowker finally set it at 13 feet and 11.75 inches.

"We're off to a great start this season and everyone competed really well," Concordia head coach Jim Brewer said.  "It was a great weekend to be an Eagle."

The Eagles will be back in action February 8th at Concordia University for the CUI Throws Meet.
