The #11 Concordia Eagles won their fourth-straight GSAC series on Monday afternoon, March 11, as they defeated Vanguard in the make-up game from Friday's rainout, 2-1, in 11 innings.

To lead off the 11th, Bryan Garza walked, Matt Horton pinch ran, and stole second.  He went to third on a groundout and scored on Ryan DiMascio's single to center field.  Danny Romero worked around a leadoff single and stranded a Lions' runner on second to end the game.  Chris Garrison started for CU, going seven innings, with four hits, and K'ing 10 in the no-decision.  Romero was lights out over the last four innings with one hit and five strikeouts.

DiMascio had three hits for CU and Chance Kopacz added two.  Garza and Kopacz each knocked doubles, and the Eagles had seven hits.  Vanguard used a Concordia error to take the 1-0 lead in the first.  CU hit into a double play in the second and left a man on second in the fifth inning.  Ty Holm singled to lead off the sixth, went to second on an error, and moved to third on a sacrifice.  He scored on an RBI groundout.  The Eagles had runners on third and second in the seventh with one out, but could not score.  Garza doubled in the eighth and Concordia had a runner on second in the ninth, but came up short again.  Romero set down Vanguard 1-2-3 in the ninth and 10th innings.

"Chris Garrison was really good and Danny Romero was outstanding," Concordia head coach Mike Grahovac said.  "The offense grinded out a long day and were able to score a run in the 11th to put an end to it."

CU improved to 19-9 and 12-6 in the GSAC as they finish their first round of GSAC play winning four of five series.  Vanguard fell to 12-11 and 6-11 in the conference.  Concordia is back at home tomorrow against Sioux Falls at 2:30 pm.  Follow live stats at http://www.cuieagles.com/live/baseball/xlive.htm.
