FRESNO, CA --- Tony Pulido led the NAIA's No. 25-ranked men to a third-place showing with a time of 25:37, while Rocio Pelayo's fourth-place mark of 17:49 highlighted a second-place finish by the No. 4 women's team at the GSAC Championships.
The Concordia men's team edged No. 15 Vanguard by just three points to cling to its second consecutive third-place finish at the event, thanks to Pulido's sixth-place mark, as well as solid supporting roles from Joseph Lopez (26:10), Alaeeddine Khannouchi (26:13) and Guillermo Cazares (26:24), who finished 15th, 16th and 18th, respectively.
Joseph Pluff turned in a time of 27:08--good for 27th place, while Raymundo Vazquez (27:43) and Jarid Rollins (28:53) finished 33rd and 47th in the morning run.
On the women's side, Pelayo's fourth-place finish was complimented by fifth and sixth-place runs by Violet Mokaya (17:54) and Aybuke Kizilarslan (17:55), as the trio finished fourth-fifth and sixth.
The women held off No. 8 Biola by 10 points (56 to 66), but finished well behind No. 2 Azusa Pacific, which captured the top three spots among five top-10 performances on the day.
All three of the top performers on the women's side moved into the program's top-15 for individual race results, as the Eagles bounced back from a sixth-place finish at the 2007 meet.
Yanely Estrada (18:34) and Cynthia Rios (18:55) finished 17th and 24, respectively, while Amy Lund (20:38) and April Harris (20:40) finished at 44th and 46th.
Concordia concludes the campaign at the NAIA National Championships Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wisc.
