IRVINE, CA --- Just two games
into the 2009 season, head women's water polo coach Steve Carrera
announced the signing of a trio of newcomers for the 2010 campaign.
Carrera, in his first season at the helm of the women's program,
announced junior college standouts Lyuba Tschougounova (Los Angeles
Valley CC), Jamie Baumler (Long Beach CC) and Kiera Kenney (Palomar CC) will join
next year's team.
Tschougounova, who played her freshman season at Pasadena City College
before transferring to Los Angeles Valley, comes in with a combined 231
goals in her two years of experience, having garnered all-conference
first team honors at both schools.
A product of Crescenta Valley High School, Tschougounova was also
league MVP in her senior year as a prep, netting 116 goals in
preparation for her two All-American seasons at the Juco level.
Baumler, a dual-sport athlete, was named All-American in her sophomore year, when she served as team captain. She was also conference finalist in the 50, 100 and 200 free events both seasons, earning All-American status as a sophomore swimmer.
Player of the Year at Lakewood High School, Baumler earned a pair of All-Moore League awards, earning first-team recognition as a senior.

Kenney will provide Carrera with a seasoned goalie, after earning team MVP and Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Year consideration as a sophomore at Palomar College.
A team captain at Palomar, Kenney also served as a team captain as a prep at Vista High School, earning All-Avocado League first-team and All-CIF second-team recognition as a senior.
Concordia's 2009 squad next hosts NCAA Div. II Cal State Bakersfield Friday (Feb. 6) starting at 12 p.m. at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.
