LONG BEACH, CA --- Mike Perry's
individual title swim of 50.11 in the 100 fly boosted the Concordia men
to fifth in a pool of nine teams, while the women moved up to eighth of
14 squads at the Pacific Coast Swim Conference Championships.
With one day left in the event, the Eagles have a good chance to move up in a field that includes NAIA powerhouse California Baptist and NCAA programs Pepperdine, UC San Diego and Seattle University.
Concordia was slowed on the men's and women's sides throughout the first two days of the events, because it lacks a diving team and the resulting points for the 1- and 3-meter dives.
Although Perry's performance in the 100 fly edged UC San Diego's Daniel Perdew by .02 of a second, it was still more than .30 shy of his school record of 49.79, set Nov. 11, 2008.
Meanwhile, Tanner Remai shattered the school record with a second-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:01.70, almost a full second behind CBU's Brad Terwilliger, who touched out in 4:00.83.
Concordia's 400 medley relay team of Ryan Larson, Jura Mazuran, Perry and Luke Noll finished fourth with a time of 3:28.29, edging a school record by .02 of a second that was set at last year's NAIA National Championships.
Katie Moore finished 12th in the finals with a time of 1:08.75 in the 100 breast and set a new school record with a time of 1:08.64 in the prelims, as the women advanced two spots, to No. 10.
Ana Gomez also swam a 13th-place time of 1:00.09 in the 100 back to set a new school record.
A 400 medley relay squad of Jessica Cook, Moore, Gomez and Tuesday Schellinger swam a school-record time of 4:06.34 to finish seventh in the event.
The PCSC's conclude Saturday (Feb. 21) at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.
