EL CAJON, CA --- Lindsey
Kingsland tallied a career-high 18 points, as Concordia overpowered San
Diego Christian by a final score of 69-57 to finish out the season with
the Eagles' second-straight win in Golden State Athletic Conference
play.
Kingsland also set a career-high with eight field goals made, as Concordia ends its season at 14-14, including a 7-13 mark in GSAC play. The loss for Hawks concludes their season at 5-23, 2-18 GSAC.
"Lindsey had an awesome game tonight," first-year head coach Jenny Hansen said. "She stepped up and played her most complete game of the entire season. She was unstoppable in the paint and was ridiculously productive with her minutes, with 18 points in just 15 minutes of court time."
Thanks to strong play on the inside, the Eagles posted 26 points inside the paint, as opposed to 16 points from the Hawks, who were also out-rebounded 42-35, including 14-6 on the offensive side of things.
Concordia built up a 32-25 advantage by halftime, and built up as much as a 20-point lead, when Sarah Lindley buried a trey to make the score 51-31 with 11:14 left on the game clock. The Eagles' bench posted 40 points on the night, and limited the Hawks to just 18 points among non-starters.
Dorchella James was at the center of San Diego Christian's attack, as she notched 17 points and finished with eight rebounds in the loss.
Trailing by 20 points, the Hawks put together a 17-5 rally that brought the game to within eight points, at 56-48 with 4:45 left, when Allison Mercer hit a forced a turnover and converted with a jumper.
Kingsland responded with a three-point play that sparked a modest 9-2 run that included five points from Britnie Priest to make the score 64-50 with 3:08 left to play.
Playing in her final game as an Eagle, Priscilla Angeloni scored seven points and ended up with seven rebounds, while Nicole Fu scored 10 points and dealt out three assists.
With 14 returners from a 2007-08 roster that went 10-20 and won just four games in GSAC play, Concordia's 14-14 record that included seven wins in conference is a major improvement from a year ago.
Fourteen wins is the most for Concordia since the 2005-06 campaign, and a nine-game winning streak early in the season was complimented in part by a two-game win streak to end the season.
"I'm proud of the way the girls finished the season," Hansen said. "We started out strong and hit a rocky spot in the season, but throughout the last four games in particular, the girls turned it around and showed what this team can do in the future."
"The way this team bounced back shows a lot of its character."
