IRVINE, CA --- With the month
of June drawing to a close, five of Concordia's six Fall sports have
announced their schedules, as all six Eagle programs are looking to
make a return trip to the NAIA National Championships.
Concordia volleyball will try for its first-ever national title after finishing the 2008 campaign in the NAIA Final Round with a five-game setback to Golden State Athletic Conference foe Fresno Pacific. The Eagles will play under first-year head coach Kyle Kvasnicka, who is entering his fifth year as a coach in the program.
Men's and women's soccer, who were both ousted in the Opening Round of the NAIA National Championships a year ago, will be playing for first-year Director of Soccer Chris Gould, himself a 2007 Concordia alumnus who played on a 2005 men's team that captured its first-ever GSAC title.
Meanwhile, head coach Martin Gonzalez begins his 10th season at the helm of Concordia's men's and women's cross country program, in addition to his duties as head coach for men's and women's track and field. Last year, the men's cross country team sent individual qualifer Tony Pulido to the national meet, while the women finished in eighth place of a 32-team field.
Men's Water Polo, which finished just one overtime goal away from capturing the CBU Fall Classic title in 2008, will release its 2009 schedule in the coming days.
