SAN BERNARDINO, CA --- An early goal from junior midfielder Alex Picarelli
evaporated less than six minutes later, as the Coyotes
buried the golden goal in the 32nd minute, as the NAIA's No. 2 Concordia fell, 4-1, to NCAA Div. II Cal State San Bernardino.
The Eagles, who just moved up from No. 5 to the No. 2 position in the weekly NAIA poll earlier in the day, take their first loss of the season and drop to 2-1 on the season.
After Picarelli connected with a pass from senior midfielder Ryan Angell to put Concordia ahead with the game's first goal, at 10:55, Cal State San Bernardino picked up the equalizer on a goal at 16:37 from Obi Agwu, who would end with a pair of tallies and an assist on the afternoon.
The Coyotes' Billy Pellow scored his only goal of the game to break the tie, courtesy of an assist from Jose Godinez in the 32nd minute, and the Coyotes would hold the lead the rest of the way.
Overall, Cal State San Bernardino out-shot Concordia by a 15-5 margin, although the Eagles held the advantage in corner kicks, at 9-2.
The Coyotes padded their lead early in the second half, when Godinez buried their third goal of the game from an Agwu assist, and Agwu scored his second goal of the game from a through ball by Jorge Aguirre in the 88th minute to make the final score 4-1.
Concordia sophomore goalkeeper James Rammelsberg was credited for two saves, while Cal State San Bernardino keeper Arath De La Rocha nabbed four saves in the win.
The Eagles next play a pair of games at University of Mobile this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 11-12), starting with a game against Notre Dame College (OH) Friday at 5 p.m.
