Rocio Pelayo helped the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Concordia women to
a sixth-place finish in a 13-team field at the Asics/UC Irvine
Invitational.
The men, meanwhile, placed 12th out of 21 programs in the first event of the season.
Mokaya crossed the line at 17:46, just three seconds shy of her career-best, for seventh on the school's all-time chart. Pelayo broke the 18-minute mark as well, running a time of 17:59, which is 24th in the school record books.
Freshman
Jennifer Mallen posted a 20th-place time of 18:26.20 in her Eagles debut among eight Concordia finishers on the women's side.
For the men, freshman
Zachary Oliver finished 41st with a mark of 26:17.20, and junior
Alaeeddine Khanouchi turned in a 74th-place time of 27:01.70 among five finishers.
The Eagles next compete at the Charles Bowles/Willamette Invitational Saturday (Oct. 3) in Salem, Ore.
