IRVINE, CA --- A sixth-place mark by sophomore Violet Mokaya and a 10th-place run by sophomore teammate Rocio Pelayo helped the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Concordia women to a sixth-place finish in a 13-team field at the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational.

The men, meanwhile, placed 12th out of 21 programs in the first event of the season.

Mokaya crossed the line at 17:46, just three seconds shy of her career-best, for seventh on the school's all-time chart. Pelayo broke the 18-minute mark as well, running a time of 17:59, which is 24th in the school record books.

Freshman Jennifer Mallen posted a 20th-place time of 18:26.20 in her Eagles debut among eight Concordia finishers on the women's side.

For the men, freshman Zachary Oliver finished 41st with a mark of 26:17.20, and junior Alaeeddine Khanouchi turned in a 74th-place time of 27:01.70 among five finishers.

The Eagles next compete at the Charles Bowles/Willamette Invitational Saturday (Oct. 3) in Salem, Ore.
