OAKLAND, CA --- The NAIA's No. 9-ranked Concordia fired away 34 shots, but it was one that made the difference, as senior midfielder
Jon Fahey tucked in the game-winner early in the second half to give the Eagles a 1-0 victory over Holy Names Saturday.
The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Eagles, who improve to 4-3 on the season, while Holy Names drops to 1-1-2 with their first loss to a Golden State Athletic Conference foe in three matchups on the year.
"It was good to get the win," head coach
Chris Gould said. "The team knows that they have under-performed lately, but they understand now that working hard day-in and day-out is the only way to get back on track."
In his first start of the year, junior goalie
Mike Radchuk posted the shutout, although he was tested with only one shot on-goal despite playing all 90 minutes.
Fahey scored on a cross from junior forward
Roi Castro at 55:04 for the game's only goal, as the Eagles fired off 34 shots compared to just eight attempts by the Hawks.
Senior midfielder
Adrian Martinez took six shots, Fahey finished with five, and sophomore forward
Kyle Hollomon ripped a trio of shots on the day.
Concordia is next in action next Wednesday (Sept. 30), when it hosts Point Loma Nazarene in the GSAC opener starting at 3 p.m. at Eagles Field.
