IRVINE, CA --- A pair of
top-five finishes not only fueled the Concordia women to a third-place
finish at the Charles Bowles/Willamette Invitational this Saturday
(Oct. 3), but propelled the Eagles up one spot in the NAIA Coaches' Top
25 Poll, at No. 7.
The top two times were posted by sophomores
Rocio Pelayo and
Violet Mokaya, who finished second and fourth with times of 17:26.22 and 17:35.91, respectively. Both athletes eclipsed their previous career-best performances at the meet.
Meanwhile, freshman
Jennifer Mallen turned in a time of 18:02.06, good for 20th in the field of 241 runners, as junior
Amy Lund turned in a time of 19:04.57 to finish in 57th place.
Four additional athletes also finished the event, which was Concordia's second meet of the year.
On the men's side, freshman
Zachary Oliver earned a 46th place finish with a time of 25:21.33 in the 8k, as freshman
Joshua Gomez and junior
Alaeeddine Khannouchi ran good enough times to finish in the top-100, at 25:31.66 and 26:08.34, respectively.
Both Eagles teams compete at the Vanguard Invitational this Saturday (Oct. 10) starting at 8:30 a.m. in Costa Mesa.
