COSTA MESA, CA --- Led by
second and third place performances by sophomore duo
Rocio Pelayo and
Violet Mokaya, the NAIA's No. 7-ranked Concordia finished third of 12
teams at the Vanguard Invitational. The men came in seventh of 12 teams
at the event.
Pelayo ran the 5k in a time of 17:43, good for second place, while Mokaya came in third, crossing the line at 17:43.
Meanwhile, freshman
Jennifer Mallen continued to impress early in the season, finishing fifth with a mark of 18:10 to help the Eagles to the meet's second-lowest average time, at 18:30.40.
Freshman
Michelle Urata (19:16) and junior
Amy Lund (19:22) earned 40th and 44th place, respectively, while three others finished in the top 100 of 126 athletes.
For the men, freshman
Joshua Gomez teamed up with junior
Alaeeddine Khannouchi paced each other, running times of 26:24 and 26:25 to finish 16th and 17th, respectively, as freshman
Zachary Oliver ran a mark of 26:53 to finish 27th
Freshman
Stephen Phelps finished 50th, meanwhile, with a time of 27:44, as senior
Jarid Rollins came in 87th with a mark of 30:41.
Both Eagles teams will take a week off from competition before heading to Louisville, Ky., to compete at the Southeastern Classic Saturday (Oct. 24) starting at 11:30 a.m.
