IRVINE, CA --- Playing a man down for nearly 90 minutes, the NAIA's No. 16-ranked Concordia kept No. 20 Biola from its second upset in a week, as the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in a Golden State Athletic Conference matchup Saturday.

Concordia emerges from the contest with a record of 8-4-1, including 4-1-1 in GSAC play, while Biola heads home with a 10-1-1 mark, including 5-0-1 in conference play.

"Every team goes through a character test at some point in the season, when something isn't going their way and they have to dig deep," head coach Chris Gould said. "The guys showed really good character and worked their socks off. They represented the program very well today. We're starting to see this as a really special group."

The Eagles lost a man in the 23rd minute, when junior defender Jeff Coulter was shown his second yellow card of the game with a tackle in the box that directly led to Biola's only goal, a penalty kick by defending GSAC Offensive Player of the Week Marco Ruvalcaba.

It seemed at that point that Biola was destined to repeat a 1-0 upset of then-No. 2 Azusa Pacific last Saturday (Oct. 10), but Concordia struck back with what turned out to be the game's final goal in the 39th minute, when sophomore forward Kyle Hollomon fought for the ball on the left-hand side of the goal before tucking a goal away in the near post.

Biola peppered 17 shots, compared to 13 by Concordia, which called on junior goalkeeper Mike Radchuk for eight saves.

Radchuk made three outstanding saves at key moments in the game, the first of which came in the 41st minute when Biola's Kennedy Chongo rifled a shot from seven yards out that Radchuk parried out for a corner.

Radchuk faced a similar situation in the 74th minute, when Ruvalcaba blasted a shot on the run that was snared by the Eagles' keeper, keeping hope alive for an overtime period.

Radchuk then made a sprawled-out, one-handed save just three minutes later, in the 77th minute, when Zach Bautista tested him to his right for the potential game-winner.

Defending GSAC Defensive Player of the Week Aaron Fenalson nabbed two shots for Biola on the afternoon.

Concordia next plays at San Diego Christian this Wednesday (Oct. 21) starting at 3 p.m. in El Cajon.
