IRVINE, CA --- A group
comprised of three women and one man, four Eagles were named to their
respective All-Golden State Athletic Conference Cross Country teams
just days before Concordia competes at the NAIA National Championships.
Sophomores
Violet Mokaya and
Rocio Pelayo, along with freshman
Jennifer Mallen, were all three named to the All-GSAC squad, while freshman
Zachary Oliver--the lone individual qualifier for the men--was received the honor as well.
This year, Mokaya led the team three times, while Pelayo finished a team-best second twice times, and ran identical times of 17:26 in two races. Mokaya was just 18 seconds behind Pelayo for a third-place performance at the Vanguard Invitational.
At the Southeastern Classic, Mokaya finished a season-best second place, with a time of 18:03, as the Eagles earned the meet title.
Mallen started the year with back-to-back 20th place showings before earning consecutive fifth-place marks in the middle of the season. She finished fifth with a time of 18:01 at the Vanguard Invitational.
The trio finished in the top-10 a total of 13 times throughout the year, including eight top-5 and five top-3 runs throughout the year.
Oliver finished in the top-50 in all five races, and ran a season-best time of 25:58 to finish sixth at the GSAC Championships Nov. 7 to earn an individual qualification into the national meet.
The Eagles will close out the season at Vancouver National Historical
Reserve in Vancouver, Wash., in the 54th running of the NAIA National Championships this Saturday (Nov. 21) starting at 10:30 a.m.
Scholar-Athlete Honorees
Seniors
April Harris and
Jarid Rollins, along with junior
Amy Lund, were all named GSAC Scholar-Athletes.
Lund is a communications major, while Harris is an exercise sports science major with an emphasis in coaching and athletic administration. Rollins is earning his degree in psychology.
