LA MIRADA, CA --- In a game pitting two undefeated teams tied for first place in the GSAC, something had to give. The good news for the NAIA's No. 2 Concordia is that it goes home undefeated with a 66-56 win at the expense of No. 4 Biola.

The Eagles hit their last seven tries from the charity stripe in the last minute-plus to put the game on ice and extend their best start in program history to 17-0, including 7-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

Biola gained a two-point lead midway through the second half and trailed by just three points as late as 4:34 remaining, but take the loss and fall to 16-1, 6-1 GSAC.

Concordia, which started out the game just 3-for-16 from beyond the arc, kept firing away from long distance regardless, and ended up going 8-for-29 (28 percent) from three-point distance. The Eagles made up for a down shooting night by turning the ball over just eight times, compared to 16 giveaways by Biola.

Senior guard Terrence Worthy hit five of Concordia's treys, going 5-for-9 on three-point attempts to score a game-high 22 points, while senior forward Dominic Cruz-Duncan and junior guard Justin Johnson netted 11 and 10- points, respectively, in the win.

"That was an outstanding defensive game for two of the best defensive teams in the country at this level," head coach Ken Ammann said. "Points were tough to come by all night long. Terrence stepping up and scoring 22 points in a game like that was incredible. His will and determination in the second half, along with a great team defensive effort, was what won the game for us."

"Our guards in general did a great job of taking care of the ball and not turning it over, and that was a big difference-maker as well."

Biola and its 1,975 fans at Chase Gymnasium were thinking upset following a trey by Clay Martin to give the home team a 47-45 lead with 8:53 to play, but Worthy was there to hit a triple just 15 seconds later and give the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Worthy's three-pointer would then mark the beginning of a four-minute field-goal drought for both teams that he would end with the first of two consecutive treys that sandwiched a jumper by Biola's Rocky Hampton. The quick flurry of three-pointers by Worthy gave CUI a 58-51 advantage with 3:34 on the clock, and Biola would come no closer than five points the rest of the way.

Worthy then buried all six of his tries from the charity stripe in the last minute to slam the door on a relentless Biola team that out-scored CUI by a 26-16 margin in the paint.

Hampton posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while reigning GSAC Player of the Week Marlon King scored 11 points and dished out six assists.

Junior center Ben Smith scored eight points and hauled down 11 rebounds and junior guard A.J. Gasporra netted a pair of treys to finish with six points.

"Biola's gym is always a great environment and always a tough place to play," Ammann said. "Our guys did a great job and focused on the road against a great team."

The Eagles next take on Vanguard this Tuesday (Jan. 19) starting at 7:30 p.m. in Costa Mesa.
