RIVERSIDE, CA --- Junior driver Sam Gelberger scored five points in a 10-8 win over Cal State San Bernardino in the early game, and junior 2-meter Calli Manderino netted five goals on the day, as Concordia opened the season with a split on the day.

The Eagles (1-1) also fell in the 4 p.m. game by a tally of 13-7 to California Baptist.

Gelberger scored two goals in the third period against the Coyotes, who hung within one goal in each of the first three periods before a modest 4-2 flurry in the fourth secured the win for CUI.

Gelberger scored three goals in the final period, all three within a minute of each other.

Manderino scored two of her goals in the first game, and powered the Eagle offense with three scores in the finale, as Gelberger added two goals in the loss to CBU.

The Lancers picked up six goals from Petra Kovacs and a hat trick from Collette Brown in the win.

CUI junior goalie Lauren Biberston came up with six goals in both games to end with a dozen on the day.

Junior 2-meter defender Ally Edge and sophomore driver Pelin Chalayan scored two goals each on the day, while sophomore utility Abby Tsukamoto scored a third-period goal against Cal State San Bernardino.

Concordia next takes on Santa Clara at the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunner Tournament Feb. 13, starting at 9:45 a.m.
