EL CAJON, CA --- Concordia's three-minute field-goal drought couldn't have come at a more costly time, as San Diego Christian turned a three-point lead into a 14-point win in the waning minutes of Tuesday night's 82-68 win at the Eagles' expense in GSAC play.
The loss is only the third for Concordia in the 27-game history of head-to-head play with the Hawks, and the first since 2003, a stretch of 12 matchups.
Concordia falls to 10-8 overall, but just 3-7 in Golden State Athletic Conference play, while San Diego Christian picks up its first GSAC win to improve to 4-15 overall, and 1-9 in conference tilts.
The Eagles had trailed by as much as 15 points, at 49-34, five minutes into the second half, and rallied to come back and take the lead at 59-58 on a jumper by junior guard
Nicole Fu with 5:15 left on the clock.
CUI held another one-point lead at 61-60 on a jumper by junior guard
Patrice Hunter with 3:18 remaining, but her score marked the last field goal Concordia would convert until senior forward
Jen McDaniel hit a layup with 18 seconds to play and the game well out-of-hand.
The Hawks were led by 35 points from Torreya Edwards, who went 13-for-14 from the charity stripe, and out-scored the Eagles by a 22-12 margin on turnovers despite gaining just one more CUI turnover (18) than its own 17 giveaways.
SDC also picked up 16 points and seven boards from Melissa Villalobos, while Thalia Benjamin chipped in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior center
Lindsey Kingsland led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds for CUI, while Fu and senior guard
Sarah Lindley added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Eagles next host the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Azusa Pacific this coming Saturday (Jan. 30) in GSAC action starting at 5:30 p.m.
