The Eagles (10-10, 3-9 GSAC) hit just two shots from beyond the arc in 18 attempts for their lowest three-point total and lowest three-point percentage (.111) of the campaign. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak over the Royals.
Hope International is now 8-14, including 3-9 in GSAC play. The Royals had taken Concordia into overtime in the two teams\' conference opener Dec. 1 in Irvine before falling by a 72-65 score, but they were equally relentless in the win tonight, taking over at 60-59 with just 26 seconds left on the clock.
The Royals\' Champ Hood scored 24 points--including the game\'s final bucket--and went 11-for-14 from the field.
Concordia took a 57-55 lead on a jumper by senior forward
Jen McDaniel with 1:38 left in the game, but were momentarily overtaken at 58-57 on a three-pointer from Sarah Nylander just 18 seconds later.
CUI regained the lead at 59-58 on a jumper by junior guard
Nicole Fu with 50 seconds remaining, but Hood\'s thunderbolt gave the Royals the lead for good at 60-59.
The Eagles had a final chance when Lauren Salazaar missed a single-bonus free throw and Fu grabbed the rebound with 14 seconds left, but senior guard
Kayanna Nichols couldn\'t find the net with a three-point attempt on the final possession of the game.
Fu finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while junior center
Lindsey Kingsland scored 13 points.
The Eagles next host Westmont this Thursday (Feb. 4), starting at 5:30 p.m. at CU Arena.
