IRVINE, CA --- Junior guard
Nicole Fu hit a career-high seven treys and scored 26 points--including
17 in the second half--but the Eagles were unable to overcome a 43-26
halftime deficit in a 74-68 loss to The Master's College in GSAC play
Tuesday.
Concordia drops its fifth game in a row and eighth in its last nine to fall to 10-12 on the season, including 3-11 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
The Mustangs shot 45 percent (28-for-62) from the field and out-rebounded the Eagles by a 46-37 margin to improve to 13-9, 8-6 GSAC.
Fu hit three triples in a two-minute span early in the second half to bring Concordia to within 11 points, at 49-38, after having trailed by as much as 20 points late in the first half.
She then hit a three-pointer and followed up with a three-point play midway through the half to cut the Mustang lead down to seven points (56-49), but the Eagles were unable to sustain the rally long enough to close in on The Master's, which led by 13 points at 66-53 with 4:37 left on the clock.
Concordia made a 6-0 run late in the game to enter the final minute trailing 70-62 after a field goal from junior forward
Karen Carney, and junior guard
Britnie Priest scored four points in the last minute to help narrow the score to 74-68 prior to the buzzer.
Priest ended with 11 points and four assists, while junior center
Lindsey Kingsland scored seven points in 11 minutes off the bench. Junior forward
Cheyenne Wallace grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and scored six points while swatting five shots.
The Mustangs were led by 20 points from Lena Rivera and a double-double by Brittany Henderson, who scored 17 points and grabbed 15 boards. Erica Inge scored 13 points and forced six steals.
Concordia is next in action this Saturday (Feb. 13) in a GSAC game at California Baptist starting at 5:30 p.m. in Riverside.
