RIVERSIDE, CA --- All-GSAC catcher Sharif Othman bombed two homers, including the walk-off game-winner in the 10th inning, and ended with five RBI to down Concordia and put a damper on the Eagles' ninth-inning comeback in an 8-6 loss.

Concordia drops its second in a row to California Baptist, which picks up the win despite committing five errors.

Although the two teams were scheduled to play a head-to-head doubleheader this Saturday, a rainstorm predicted to hit Irvine Saturday morning has caused the twin bill to be rescheduled for Friday (Feb. 26) and Monday (March 1), with both games starting at 2 p.m.

The Eagles fall to 7-4, including 0-2 to start the Golden State Athletic Conference campaign, while the Lancers improve to 13-4, 2-0 GSAC.

Concordia gained a 5-3 lead with three unearned runs in the fifth, but stranded a runner on third base to end that inning, as well as the following two, setting the stage for a three-run shot by Othman in the sixth that gave California Baptist a 6-5 advantage.

Junior infielder Edgar Guillen, starting at second base for the first time in his career, ripped a two-bagger to lead off the ninth, and moved up on a passed ball by Othman before coming home on a groundout by senior center fielder Pete Lemone to send the game into extra innings.

Junior right-hander Dean Persinger (0-1) came in to start the ninth and retired the first four batters he faced before issuing a one-out walk ahead of Othman's game-winning round-tripper.

The Eagles picked up the game's first run in the second when sophomore DH Kyle Konicek singled to lead off and went to third on a double in the gap from junior catcher John Hill before scoring on a groundout by junior right fielder Ryan Sheeks to make it a 1-0 ballgame.

CBU came back with two runs in the bottom of the second on four-straight hits to start the frame, but the Eagles tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third when Guillen led off with a bunt single and scored as part of a first-and-third double-steal.

After CBU re-gained the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the third, Guillen doubled and scored one of three CUI runs in the fifth inning in a rally that was fueled by three CBU miscues, giving the Eagles their largest lead of the game, at 5-3.

Freshman righty Sam Lindsey started and went 5+ innings, where he allowed six earned runs on eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Othman's first homer chased him three batters into the sixth.

Hill and Konicek each posted a two-hit day, while Guillen finished with three hits--including two doubles, and scored three times.

The two teams square off again tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 26), starting at 2 p.m. at Eagle Field on the campus of Concordia University.
