IRVINE, CA --- After getting blanked by Azusa Pacific's Taryn Devich in the opener, the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Concordia scored a run in the first inning of game two and made it last until plating four runs in the sixth inning to earn a split by scores of 0-3 and 5-1.

The Eagles (10-6, 1-1 GSAC) rapped out seven hits off Devich in game one, but could never answer a three-spot from the Cougars in the opening frame of the 3-0 loss.

Azusa Pacific ends the day at 8-8, including 1-1 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

"Our pitching was solid today, but our focus from here on out has to be on getting tougher and executing offensively," head coach Crystal Rosenthal said. "The bottom line is that we aren't very good right now and that's something we need to work really hard to fix. We need to not worry about our opponents as much as we need to worry about ourselves."

Azusa Pacific scored two of its three first-inning runs on a long double from Bekah Weisser, who would later score in the inning, but CUI starting right-hander Rachel Reekstin took command from there, allowing just three hits the rest of the way in a complete-game effort.

Reekstin allowed seven hits in seven frames overall, allowing three earned runs while handing out one walk and striking out three.

Devich allowed seven hits as well, and did not walk a batter against seven strikeouts for the complete-game victory.

The Eagles were suddenly looking to snap a three-game losing streak when the nightcap rolled around, and Rosenthal's lineup looked noticably different as a result.

The lineup changes worked out in the first inning, when NAIA All-American first-teamer Katie Carson doubled to lead off the frame before scoring on a single by sophomore second baseman Lizette Fernandez to give freshman lefty Morgan Reiter a 1-0 lead to protect.

Reiter did a great job of protecting the advantage, allowing just one earned run and scattering six hits without giving out a walk and striking out five batters in the complete-game effort.

Back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the sixth set the table for Concordia's four-run rally to give Reiter some breathing room.

Senior catcher Melanie Hansen knocked an RBI single, while senior DP Alicia Leto's single drove in two runs in the offensive outburst.

Azusa Pacific's Rita Kim took the loss after allowing five earned runs on four hits and three walks in 5.2 innings. She struck out five batters in the outing.

Concordia next hosts Cornerstone (MI), this coming Saturday (March 6) in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. at Eagle Field.
