SAN DIEGO, CA --- A pair of wins singles wins in the No. 4 and 5 spots gave the NAIA's No. 3-ranked Concordia a chance at a comeback win, but No. 6-ranked Point Loma Nazarene's Wileen Chiu downed Sabrina Man-Son-Hing in three sets to down Concordia by a 5-4 tally.
The loss drops Concordia to 5-2 overall, including 4-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play, while Point Loma Nazarene improves to 6-1, including a 5-1 mark in GSAC competition.
Concordia, which swept Hope International in a GSAC tilt Monday, was just one loss away from falling to the Sea Lions after going 2-1 in the first three singles finishes of the day.
However, Jordan Kimura won from the No. 4 spot by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Kristin Yep earned a win at No. 5 by tallies of 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 to bring the day's events to a head in Chiu vs. Man-Son-Hing.
Man-Son-Hing brought a 5-0 mark into the showdown with Chiu and won the first set, 6-4, but eventually fell, 6-2, 7-5 in the decisive match.
Concordia next plays NCAA Div. I Villanova this Thursday (March 4), starting at 1 p.m. in San Diego.
