IRVINE, CA --- Highlighted by an eight-run eighth inning where they hit for the cycle, the Eagles scored in every inning but the seventh and 13 players ended with at least one hit in a 25-4 Concordia win over Illinois Tech in non-conference action Monday afternoon.
The Eagles snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 9-9 on the season heading into this week's Golden State Athletic Conference four-game series with No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene, starting with a doubleheader Wednesday (March 10), starting at 10 a.m. at Carroll B. Land Stadium.
Illinois Tech made six errors in its season opener, but managed 11 hits, including a three-run homer by Tom Hotz.
Fourteen of Concordia's 22 hits were for extra bases on the day, including a pair of doubles by junior catcher
John Hill, who rapped out four hits and drove in three runs on the day.
Junior second baseman
Robbie Knowles blasted a majestic two-run homer in the sixth and ripped a three-run double in the second to end with a game-high five RBI, while junior left fielder
Sam Pavlisick hit a three-run homer in his only at-bat of the day.
Junior third baseman
Danny Casey went deep and hit one of three Concordia triples, while sophomore left fielder
Kyle Konicek and junior right fielder
Matt Ivanoff also went yard on the afternoon.
Senior center fielder
Pete Lemone went 3-for-4 and drew two walks to score four runs, while senior second baseman
Josh Konicek hit a bases-loaded double in his only at-bat.
The Eagles scored seven runs in the first two innings and led, 11-0, before Hotz launched a three-run homer in the fifth to get the Scarlet Hawks on the board.
Concordia senior right-hander
Daniel Heben picked up the win with five innings where he allowed three earned runs on eight hits and three walks against eight strikeouts in his first start of the year to improve to 1-0.
Illinois Tech lefty Luis Montoya (0-1) was hit with the loss with seven runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks in two innings of work.
The Eagles, who were originally scheduled to host Trinity International (IL) tomorrow afternoon, will now gear up for the four-game series with Point Loma, a team that has started out the year at 14-3-1, including 6-1 in GSAC play.
