FULLERTON, CA --- The Eagles jumped on Hope International starter Kayla Uphold for five runs in the first inning of game one, but Uphold came back to allow just one earned run in a complete-game effort in game two as the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Concordia swept by scores of 9-0 and 4-0.
Concordia improves to 19-7, including 4-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play, while the Roylas drop to 10-14, 0-8 GSAC.
NAIA All-American first baseman
Katie Carson hit a three-run homer in game two and drove in six runs on the day, as the Eagles racked up 21 hits and limited Hope International to seven hits on the afternoon.
In a five-run first inning rally that was helped along by three errors from the Royals, senior catcher
Melanie Hansen hit a two-run double and scored on an error, as sophomore second baseman
Lizette Fernandez and sophomore third baseman
Jennifer Simons chipped in RBI singles.
Senior center fielder
Shannon Walton hit a two-run homer in the fourth to make it a 7-0 Concordia lead, and Carson singled in a pair of runs in the sixth to make the final score 9-0.
Senior right-hander
Rachel Reekstin picked up the win to improve to 3-3 on the season. In five shutout innings pitched, she allowed just one hit and walked a batter while fanning three in the process.
Uphold allowed five runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk in just one inning to take the game-one loss.
Carson cracked a three-run homer in the second inning of game two, then singled in a run in the top of the sixth to give the Eagles and freshman left-hander
Morgan Reiter a 4-0 cushion.
Reiter improves to 5-0 with the win, where she went seven shutout innings and gave up five hits and no walks. She struck out three in the victory.
Concordia next hosts the NAIA's No. 1-ranked and defending champion California Baptist this Tuesday (March 16), starting at 2 p.m. at Eagle Field.
