IRVINE, CA --- The most successful season to date in the pool for Concordia men's water polo has now been complimented by accolades in the classroom for three Eagles, as
Duje Grubisic,
Alex Donovan and
Martin Babovic were all named All-Academic.
The trio becomes the first group from Concordia to be recognized by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, with Grubisic leading the way in the "Outstanding" category, which honors only the top scholars within collegiate water polo.
Donovan earned "Superior" recognition, while Babovic was tabbed in the "Excellent" category.
In 2009, Concordia went 26-5, including nine wins against teams ranked in the Top-20. The Eagles, who had never before appeared in a CWPA Top-20 Poll, ended the season as the No. 11 team in the nation.
On the season,
Caleb Hamilton and
Milos Skaljac earned CWPA All-American honorable mention recognition, becoming the first of that category in Concordia water polo history.
