IRVINE, CA --- Lucas Spencer, one of Orange County's Top-20 prep swimmers and water polo standouts over the past three years, according to
The Orange County Register, has signed a letter of intent to play both sports at Concordia, Director of Aquatics
Ken Dory announced.
"I could not be any happier to sign an athlete than I am to sign Lucas," Dory, who serves as head coach for Eagle swim and dive, said. "He is a local athlete and has the drive to compete in both polo and swimming. He should help us out immediately, starting this fall in water polo."
A two-time All-Centruy League honoree in water polo--including first-team accolades as a senior--Spencer will leave El Modena High School as the school record holder in three individual events and two relays.
Spencer served as a three-year team captain in swim, and earned OC Varsity Athlete of the Week honors as a senior, where he went undefeated in dual meets.
Individually, his top times have come in the 50 and 100 free, as well as the 100 breast, and he swam on school-record holding squads for the 200 and 400 free relays as a senior.
Spencer's water polo accomplishments are just as impressive. In the last two of the three years he spent as a starter on the varsity squad, Spencer was in the top-three in goalscorers on the team, and helped his team to its first-ever CIF victory in school history as a junior.
Spencer was selected to the Orange County All-Star Team as a senior, and served as a team captain in his final year in the program.
A sprinter and driver, Spencer is expected to make an immediate impact for Concordia men's water polo, which finished the year ranked No. 11 in the CWPA Top-20 Poll and went 26-5, including nine wins against ranked opponents on the campaign in 2009.
Spencer os also expected to contibute to Concordia swim and dive, which saw its men's and women's teams finish fourth at the NAIA National Championships earlier this year.
A Scholar-Athlete award winner who was also named to the El Modena Honor Roll, Spencer should fit right in with a water polo team that boasted three All-Academic honorees in 2009.
