MOBILE, AL --- Jennifer Sher and
Cristina Paiva-Flor each won in both singles and doubles play, as Concordia advanced to the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals with a 5-0 victory over Southern Nazarene (OK) Wednesday afternoon at Mobile Tennis Center.
The Eagles sit at 19-3, equaling the season total from 2009, and will need a victory tomorrow morning against Vanguard to advance to the semifinals this year.
Concordia will be looking for its third win on the season against the Lions, after taking both regular-season showdowns by scores of 6-3.
Sher, an All-GSAC selection on the regular season, had paired up with fellow all-conference honoree Bettina Radke for an 8-2 victory in doubles action, and she earned a 6-2, 6-1 singles win to help the Eagles move on in the tournament.
Paiva-Flor also took an 8-1 victory in doubles play along with
Johanna Sceresini, then tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win from the No. 6 singles position to clinch the victory.
In the No. 2 spot for doubles, All-GSAC
Jordan Kimura and
Kristin Yep earned an 8-5 win to help the Eagles out to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Concordia and Vanguard square off Thursday, May 20, at 7 a.m. PST.
