MOBILE, AL --- A sweep of doubles play made a 5-2 victory a foregone conclusion, as Concordia picked up a pair of wins in singles to clinch the victory and punch a ticket to the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals at the expense of Martin Methodist (TN) Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles improve their record to 16-4, and are in the hunt for a trip to the semifinals at Mobile Tennis Center, which will be played Thursday afternoon (May 20), at 1 p.m. CST.
Kareem Berdai and Jan Guler earned the only two wins in singles action, with Berdai winning by a 6-3, 6-2 score and Guler picking up a 6-4, 6-1 victory to help clinch the victory.
All-GSAC selection Andrey Potapkin teamed with Bruno Santarelli for a 9-8 (6) nail-biter from the No. 1 position in doubles, while All-GSAC Augusto Elias and Kareem Berdai picked up an 8-2 win from No. 2.
Ryan McNamara and Chris Paish followed up 8-2 win with one of their own in the No. 3 spot, as the Eagles took a commanding lead into singles play.
Concordia matches its best record in school history, with 16 wins for the second year in a row, heading into tomorrow's quarterfinal.
