MARION, IN --- If his freshman season is any indication of things to come, Concordia track and field has plenty of success to look forward to out of Nick Robinson. At the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, Robinson claimed his second shot put national title of the year.
On Saturday, the event's final day, Robinson threw for a distance of 60' 3.75, nearly four feet further than the nearest competitor, and that was after he came in second in the discus with a heave of 51.20 meters in Friday's action.
Robinson's NAIA All-American performances were two of five for the Eagles at the season-concluding event, as Tanya Brammer scored two All-American finishes while Violet Mokaya came in fourth with a time of 17:42.28 in the 5K to round out the All-American scorers.
"We scored 18 points for the men and 16 points for the women, you would think we brought a dozen of athletes per gender, but that was tot the case," head coach Martin Gonzalez said. "This year's national sqaud made the event very special. A collective energy, support, encouragement, and positive influence were key ingredients to our success, and to top it off, everybody who scored will return for round two in 2011 indoor and outdoor season."
Brammer was third in the long jump with a distance of 5.90 meters and also finished fourth at 1.70 meters in the high jump.
Robinson's national title marks the fourth consecutive shot put crown for Concordia, with Chad Smith earning the indoor and outdoor national titles in 2009.
