DUBUQUE, IA --- Concordia infielder Michael Mendoza received his second honor of the summer when he was named the River Valley League Hitter of the Week after hitting .500 (11-for-22) with four doubles, a triple and eight RBI in last week's action.
Mendoza is currently fifth in the league with a .356 batting average, while his teammate on the River Valley Hawks, Shayne O'Connell, is third with a .376 clip. Meanwhile, Concordia hurler Aaron Brooks is posting a 2.36 ERA and has notched 34 strikeouts in 30.1 innings of work en route to three wins.
Mendoza was previously named Gold Glove of the Week while Brooks has garnered Pitcher of the Week recognition.
The head coach for the Hawks, Concordia graduate assistant coach
Ryan Hanson, is in no hurry to leave the Hawkeye State. After serving for two years as the GA coach for
Mike Grahovac, he has accepted a position as assistant coach at Iowa Wesleyan, effective at the end of summer.
