IRVINE, CA --- Long considered a top assistant coach in collegiate basketball community, Chris Victor has accepted the head coaching position at Citrus College in Covina, ending his affiliation with Concordia that began with his standout playing career from 2001-04.

An All-Golden State Athletic Conference selection as a player, where he is still in the top-10 in 10 career record categories--including 1,076 points--Victor began his coaching career as an assistant at Citrus for former head coach Rick Croy in 2005-06.

Croy, himself a former assistant coach at Concordia, accepted a position on the men's basketball coaching staff at St. Mary's, giving Victor his first chance at taking the reigns of a collegiate program.

"Chris had the biggest impact on Concordia basketball in all its history," head coach Ken Ammann, who is starting his 10th season at the Eagle helm, said. "As a player, he was a three-year starter and a captain, and he scored 26 points in the 2003 championship game that won the GSAC its only NAIA basketball title.

"Then, he served as my right-hand man for four years. There's just no way that you can replace someone like that."

Victor, who had served as an assistant coach for Ammann since the 2006-07 season, takes over a program at Citrus that Croy led to three consecutive Western States Conference championships, including the 2008 CCCAA State Championship.

Croy coached current All-GSAC Eagle Justin Johnson, one of 34 of his athletes who went on to play at 4-year institutions.

"Coach Victor was a born leader," Ammann said. "He was running basketball camps at 18-years old, and he is more than ready to be a head coach. There is no doubt that he will be extremely successful in our business. He is going to continue a high standard of excellence that Coach Croy set at Citrus. Coach Victor is a great hire for Citrus and it's a great opportunity for him."
