PORTLAND, OR --- If sophomore midfielder
William Velasquez has laid low for his first two games as an Eagle, he may have blown his cover after scoring two goals--including the game-winner-- in a 3-2 Concordia victory over Warner Pacific Monday afternoon.
The pair of goals by Velasquez propeled the Eagle to their third win in as many games this year.
Velasquez scored in the sixth minute to give Concordia an early 1-0 advantage, but the Knights answered with a goal in the 43rd minute by Tarik Subasik that knotted the game at 1-1 heading to halftime.
After benefiting from an own goal in the 58th minute to break the tie at 2-1, Velasquez scored again in the 71st minute, making the score 3-1.
The Knights scored their second goal of the game in the 78th minute, but that was as close as they would get to the Eagles behind senior goalkeeper
Mike Radchuk and his four saves.
Concordia, which out-shot Warner Pacific by a slim 12-9 margin, is next in action this Thursday (Aug. 29), when the Eagles host NCAA Div. II Cal State San Bernardino in a scrimmage starting at 3 p.m. at Eagle Field.
