CARSON, CA --- After going down down by three goals at the half to the NCAA Div. II No. 6-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills, the Eagles held the Toros scoreless throughout the second half and picked up a goal from senior forward
Carlos Suarez, but took a 3-1 loss Thursday night.
Concordia takes its first loss of the year and dips to 3-1, while the Toros win their season-opener behind a tally each from three different goal-scorers.
The defending conference champion Toros took the lead in the third minute of the game, when Andre Turoldo capitalized on a dropped ball by senior goalkeeper
Mike Radchuk to give Cal State Dominguez Hills the lead for good.
In the 18th minute, Wyatt Stucker touched a rebound into the back of the net to double the lead for the Toros, and they extended the lead to 3-0 when Andre Turoldo's brother, Diego Turoldo, drilled home the team's third and final goal in the 38th minute.
A seemingly rejuvenated Eagles squad took to the field and cut the lead down to 3-1 just three minutes into the second half, when Suarez scored his second goal of the year, firing the only goal from Concordia from long range.
Radchuk ended the game with four saves, as the Eagles were out-shot 17-11 on the match. Despite the shot dispairty, Concordia out-shot its opponent by an 8-6 margin in the second half and forced Toros keeper Markus Dickerson to make five saves on the day.
Junior midfielder
Neal Langston took a team-high two shots on-goal, while junior midfielder
William Velasquez took three shots and landed one on-frame.
Concordia next plays at Whittier College next Saturday (Sept. 11), starting at 7 p.m.
