Fisher's first season at Concordia was truly something to marvel at. He was selected as the GSAC, NAIA and American Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year, becoming the first CUI volleyball coach to earn those honors. His 2011 squad went 37-2 and finished runner-up at the NAIA National Championships in Iowa City, IA. His team spent five weeks at #1 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll and did not lose a match between August 18 and December 3. The team set school records in assists (2165), wins (37), winning percentage (.949), GSAC wins (18), GSAC winning percentage (1.000), and winning streak (36 straight matches). For the first time in school history his squad won the GSAC Championship and had an unblemished 18-0 conference record. They also beat Fresno Pacific on the road and were ranked #1 in the nation for the first time in program history. Junior Brooke Marino was the GSAC, NAIA, and AVCA Player of the Year. The Eagles had three All-GSAC selections, two NAIA All-Americans, two NAIA All-Tournament honorees, and one GSAC Scholar Athlete.
Fisher played for nearly a decade at a variety of elite levels before becoming the top assistant coach in 2004 at his alma mater, D-I power University of Pacific.
He then moved on to D-I programs University of San Francisco (2007-09) and Hawaii (2009-11), where he served as Associate Head Coach for the women's and men's programs, respectively, gaining valuable experience in preparation of his first head coaching position.
At Hawaii he played an integral role in the team's improvement from a 9-18 team in 2009 to a combined 34-23 over his final two seasons, where the team made back-to-back trips to the Mountain Sports Pacific Federation postseason.
Fisher's coaching experience also includes a stint under current U.S. Men's National Team head coach Alan Knipe.
Fisher played his final two collegiate seasons, 1998-99 at Pacific, where he is currently fourth on the all-time charts with 3,007 career assists--highest in school history among two-year players--as a standout setter and team captain.
With his collegiate career behind him, Fisher played two years on the U.S. National Team, beginning in 1999. He also played professional volleyball internationally, making stops in Belgium, Spain and Switzerland. While playing professionally in Switzerland, he also served as head coach for the youth girls' team located in the same town as his professional team, Appenzell-Gonten.
Fisher still is an avid beach volleyball player. He recorded a pair of 13th place finishes while playing on the AVP Tour, along with multiple open wins. Dan also won the 2004 King of the Beach Tournament. He can still be spotted playing on the beaches of southern California.
Fisher, a life-long Lutheran, graduated from University of Pacific in 1999 with his bachelor's degree in sociology and a minor in religious studies, and he then earned a Master of Arts in sports science from UOP in 2008.
Fisher and his wife, Joni, just celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary this August.
